touristy places in uganda

Touristy places or non-tourist places in Uganda.

Tourist places in Uganda or non-Touristy places in Uganda, Uganda being the pearl of Africa, This name has become a signature for the country — it is a well-deserved one given the variety of not only natural wonders in Uganda but also the non-touristy places in Uganda.

Over the years I have realized I really like a lot of traveling but then get congested in the touristy places in Uganda a lot like the travel destinations or national parks in uganda. And sometimes I do not understand why people would not like to be in such places only when Uganda has got a lot more to offer than the touristy places.

I guess this has to do with the personal travel experience, traveler mindset or personal preferences. And here we have got non-touristy places in Uganda that can be mixed with the popular destinations in Uganda.

Time. If you chose to travel it means you have created some time for you to relax, learn and enjoy that time. Planning on how you are going to use your time is the best way to adventure mostly in the famous travel destinations in Uganda as the non-touristy places do not need too much planning. The best non touristy places in Uganda include;

  1. Homes are less touristy places in uganda

For many people, what first comes to mind when hearing Uganda is uganda Safari, astonishing landscapes, and an amazing variety of fauna? These are not too likely to play a big part in your travel to Uganda if you are looking at the less touristy places in Uganda, however having a few parks and landscapes mixed with home stays it’s the best safari you can ever have.

Home stays are trending in Uganda though not a lot of tourists like it, meaning if you choose to travel to Uganda talking to your service provider about your likes and enjoying the stay with real homes, knowing what they eat bathing outside bathrooms, sweeping the compound and cleaning plates without a washing machine can be a real fascinating adventure.

  1. Local foods/markets

Traveling to kidepo valley national park in Uganda takes about 24 hours meaning you will need a two days drive up there, and coming back I would suggest jumping Murchison to use the days in the markets and eating local food as well as participating in the cooking. These are places that are less touristy in Uganda that you will enjoy to the fullest. With abundant and variety of fresh foods, vegetables and meats. People alone are amazing and can make you want to stay much longer than expected.

  1. Moving around town

Moving by your self or a bike around ton can be hectic in Kampala mostly as it is crowded a lot and theft is at a high level. However Kampala life is much more fun than any other part of uganda you get to know all about us in one place. Kampala city is less touristy place is uganda because people and tourist think it too much for them.

Over 8 years I have been a city guide taking people in and around Kampala on foot to explore and enjoy the city. Yes  i have got those sayings its tiring but most of the say it’s a most tiring but memorable experience they have ever got.

Having a mixture of the travel destinations and the less touristy places in uganda, Uganda is the Pearl of Africa, a country with amazing natural scenery and a rich mosaic of tribes and cultures. However, you may consider living in Uganda for different reasons than the charming environment

Choose the best equipment’s/ cameras

Cameras may be a little bit expensive together with all the coasts you will incur on the safari, however if you choose wisely and spend once on a gadget that will give you the best for a long time it can be less cheap in the long run. You will need a camera that will give you the best shot in the longest space possible; here you will need most probably a zoom less around 400mm and a lens for wide landscape shots. To avoid changing lenses you can carry two cameras with each a lens to avoid the time you spend on changing them. Carrying extra batteries and memory cards and camera stands could be of an added advantage. Since you will have a few chances for a shot.

A must to have a safari driver /guide

A self-drive safari is way cheaper that a customized or arranged safari. Yes It’s very tempting to try and save money, though this may not give you the best on a safari most especially in a country like Uganda where wildlife is not so much in plenty. It’s worth it to go with a travel specialist, like AUTO RENTAL UGANDA. Quality travel advisors can offer small or private tours so you are not fighting for a good view or moving on before you get the shot. A good guide will also have the knowledge and experience with wildlife to ensure you’re in the right place at the right time to capture stunning images..

Time And Where to for for a safari

Planning a safari before you travel is the greatest key to having the most adventurous trip in Uganda and Africa as well. Because you need plenty of time to take as much shots as possible knowing where to and from would work greatly before anything else. Talking to your drive guide every evening to agree on the next day’s plan and how best you can get nice picture.

 Patience

It is tempting to move on from the herd of elephants after snapping a few photos to a lion, but patience pays off. In order to get spectacular images, you have to spend time watching the animals. Over time, you can better understand the animal’s behavior and relationships, which will lead to better photos before moving to another animal.

Get it in a Different Way.

Walking safaris provide opportunities to get on the ground and see things that might be overlooked in a vehicle most especially if you are into culture and people though Game drives are by far the most common way people see wildlife in Uganda but there a number of other options .Flying safaris will give you a whole new view of Uganda though not very much common and a little bit expensive but it will give you a unique view of the landscape and animals while on route to your destination. Trying out the a variety of different animal  guide experts, from cheetahs to African wild dogs, are on hand throughout your safari to provide priceless insight into each animal’s behavior and what actions are being taken on the ground to preserve the species and its habitat. The specialized experts will come with a little more dollars but it worth it.

local travel experiences.

How to enjoy local travel experiences safari in Uganda with 4 must Rules.

You want local travel experiences . You start researching destinations. You discover that so many countries in Africa mostly Uganda offer a lot of local travel experiences though others say it may not be worthy visiting. It’s true. There are a lot of destinations in the world that have a lot of tourists/travelers in them and have got more to offer than Uganda. So, if you prefer to stay away from mass tourism, it can seem like a real challenge to find an ideal destination to visit, however Uganda has got almost a piece of everything not only Africa but the world has to offer. There’s nothing wrong with visiting the main sights or the most interesting national parks as well, or eating the local delicacies made by the real women and men in Uganda.

Most people fear the real local experiences in Uganda because mainly of our back ground and mostly people think we are so poor and the only place they must sleep or visit is the national parks and the lodges there, Uganda has moved far away from what you think we have got all the world has though some not on larger scale and not fancy like those in your countries. All you know about us have to be concluded here in Uganda with the local travel experience

But if you want local travel experiences, all you really need to do is follow 4 simple rules.

The 4 simple Rules for Local Travel Experiences

If you aren’t into visiting touristy destinations, you might feel the urge to flee from Kampala city within a few minutes of your arrival. You will not get all the authentic experience if you do that.

If you follow these steps you will get the best local travel experience in Uganda.

Have it planned

Planning is the basic and first step ina safari. Be it the local travel experience or the normal safaris in any destination. Talk your travel agent about what you want and let it be planned earlier so that by the time you arrive in Uganda all the authentic local tours are planned and all set for you to go.

Must have a guide

Stepping out of our comfort zone to the locals you do not know or even sure about their behaviors may be little scarily. Here we must get a local travel experience guide. Uganda travel guides are trained and they know which button is better to press and at what time.  You do not need to have a personal guide you may get a guide book or a Google guide (Google maps) or a local real person guide.

What and where to eat

As much as we have plenty of fruits and foods in Uganda, we do not have a lot of those allergies and watching weight as most of the tourist we get. Our local travel experience guide should well know what and where to eat. You can talk to him/her about how you feel and if you do not want to please do not eat.  Our delicacy is a luwombo this is a must do and eat thing.

No pictures without consent

There is no fun in a safari without pictures at all, no fun at all.  Taking picture to go home and show what was it all about and reminding yourself of the good memories and light about it is fun. Taking pictures is allowed and very ok with it however these are local travel experiences the ones you may be doing alone on a self-drive safari where no one has warned you about it. Some people may not take it as much fun as you to take them a picture or their surroundings. Take pictures of the people who allow or sceneries or those you may have befriended and may be the only places that are allowed to.

The Rewarding Results  on local travel experiences.

Using these few steps, will help you end up with the local travel experiences that you prefer.

I travel in Uganda doing the local travel experience myself but I had to follow the 4 steps above, we end up at cozy local restaurants down quiet lanes, with doors that are not plastered with TripAdvisor stickers. There will be no English spoken, the customers will all be Ugandans and the prices will be a 1/4 of the tourist restaurants nearby…and the food usually much better!

We also end up at cool places few people seem to know about, such as local homes, markets, museums that are small with almost the local information you need about Uganda, a local hangout with an incredible view and local drinks.

We get a glimpse of real Uganda life, in quaint parks full of locals hanging out, in hidden squares abuzz with everyday activity, in shops where the fruit and pastries are of the highest quality and the cheapest prices and in beautiful neighborhoods that don’t have well-known attractions to draw a crowd.

It’s that simple. Local travel experiences can always be had…at any time, in every destination around Uganda. It’s just up to us or you to have them because they are authentic and at the end of it all the fun and disappointment’s you get are very much rewarding

What’s your local travel experience in touristy destinations?

mountain gorillas

NOTHING COMPARES TO A GREAT ENCOUNTER WITH UGANDA MOUNTAIN GORILLAS.

Uganda prides its self in these mighty and the same time mystical apes- the mountain gorillas. Yes we own almost half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. As you plan on your next travel destination Uganda should be on your list. Getting up close to these great apes is an exceptional feeling that wills warm up your life for good.

What are the mountain gorillas

Mountain gorillas are descendants of ancestral monkeys and apes found in Africa and Arabia during the start of the Oligocene epoch (34-24 million years ago).

The endangered impressive Mountain Gorillas in Uganda don’t live in any zoo across the planet since they cannot survive in detention and there, they get their name the mountain gorillas they only survive in the mountains with a very think vegetation that ie. The think tropical rain forests. These can only be found and seen in Africa, in just three countries including Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.  There are more than 1000 Mountain Gorillas remaining in the world with approximately half of them staying within Uganda in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park plus the Mgahinga Gorilla Park.

When you talk about Gorillas most people go wild in thinking, what is that? With some thoughts of Tarzan movies and King Kong. Mountain gorillas weren’t known about by the western world until 1902.  Rwanda then a German colony, Captain von Berenge was mountaineering Mount Sabinyo on the side of Rwanda together with his friends and at 9300 foot-level where they camped, they spotted a group of Mountain Gorillas and there he shot 2 of them although managed to retrieve just one.  The victim was a young-male approximately five years of age, not too big at 220 pounds, however larger than all apes the Germans had ever seen.  The Bones plus skin were later forwarded to Berlin and there it was acknowledged as a mountain gorilla.

Nobody had imagined that gorillas could stay in a high and colder environment than West -Africa.  The news of gorillas attracted hunters to the region, especially within Congo where most of these apes lost their lives including the 14 that were shot by Prince Wilhelm.

Later Mountain Gorilla preservation’s program was launched by the Belgians which in a short time were joined by the Americans; this was done in Uganda and within this time on one was visiting the gorillas. Walter Baumgärtel was offered permission to establish visits for tourists. He wrote an interesting Book “Up among the Mountain Gorillas” which actually is about his personal encounters with the tranquil giant apes in southern Uganda.  We have seen people opening our eyes on protecting the great gorillas and Uganda will still pay a lot of gratitude to them. People like Dian Fossey to George Schaller a many other renowned personalities.

Where and how to find and see mountain gorillas

Within Uganda, mountain gorillas trekking is conducted in Bwindi National Park or in Mgahinga National Park. But because of the inconsistency of gorillas in Mgahinga, majority of the sold permits are for Bwindi NP and most habituation done in mugahinga because they will be their few ad you get time to visit and learn us much as you want about them. In Uganda, every gorilla permit goes for US $ 600. On a single day, nearly 90 people travel into Bwindi to see gorillas and only 8 people are allowed to see a gorilla family we have got 6 families. We strongly encourage you to book your  gorillas permit with a safari agent; the most prominent mistake is to book a gorilla family which is far away from your choice of accommodation! The routes to Bwindi and its various regions are often tricky; this is a remote area. If you would like to do the gorilla trek on your own so as to save costs, you might end up incurring more. Safari guides have been trained to help you with this All the gorillas are the same so visiting them will require your provider knowing which accommodation you need and then reserving a pert in that side of the forest.

Several travelers intending to trek mountain gorillas have found this process tiring and they have opted to the quicker less tiring option of reserving their trekking permits through a local safari operators. This is because you cannot pay for the gorillas on ground the bookings and money are paid at the Uganda wildlife authority offices in Kampala, if they do not have your booking and you do not have a permit you will not see mountain gorillas no matter how much you try. These tour operators normally add an extra fee of US$60 to US$100 for each permit. These gorilla tour companies won’t charge you for purchasing a gorilla permit in case you are going to use their other tour services such as transfers however if you simply want only a permit from them then they will put an extra charge of up to US$100 per gorilla permit they book, since they need to make calls, pick the permit, deliver it to you and other administrative costs.

Steps to get a mountain gorillas permit through a tour operator.

You inform them of mountain gorillas trekking dates and month and the number of permits you need,

They will inform you if your preferred dates are available or not and let you know which ones are available for trekking and also temporarily book them.

An invoice will be sent for you to make payments when payments are done you will need to forward your passport details that are used to register and acquire the permit.

The permits will be printed a week to your arrival or some days to your trekking date depending on the season.

Important to note is that tour operators in Uganda through their joint organization of AUTO are all registered and on their website you can check the operator to be sure before you you’re your money. You do not need to be scammed.

What to Wear?  Choosing the right Clothing for mountain gorillas

Mountain gorillas trekking gear guide, Good quality walking boots if trying any hikes or even climbs, warm layers of cloth for the cold evenings and clothing for wet weather remember it becomes cold and wet at this high altitude.

The best place to visit and enjoy your journey is in Uganda with the great apes the mountain gorillas for an exceptional feeling.

Mom Vacations: What It Is and How to Make It Happen on a Uganda Safari.(mumcation)

What  are  mum vacations or mumcations?

mum vacations is A break from one’s motherly duties.

Since becoming a mom and never been on vacations. I have experimented with taking time away to refresh, recharge and process life In my research, I’ve landed on a 8 days Uganda impressions frame for my mommy vacations I believe is doable a one time in a year without breaking the bank or making my husband go running for the hills.

Unexpected Benefits of Mommy Vacations

I can tell that the need for leaving dodge is coming because I start exhibiting odd symptoms I simply can’t account for.

1.     Patience returns

2.     Delight returns

3.     Brings you back to your own identity

4.     It’s for catching up too

The responsibility of motherhood can be overwhelming at times. Knowing that one or more human lives depend completely on you can be stressful on a level you never even imagined before becoming a parent.

And for all its joys and rewards, it’s vital to step back sometimes and remember who you were before you became ‘Mama’ to a tiny person.   Speaking to Fox5, the psychology professor emphasized that the time and financial stresses involved in rearing a family can take their toll. ‘I think it’s really important for mothers to be rejuvenated and refreshed,’ According to Dr. Nava Silton, you need a ‘mumcation’or mum vacations

The mental health expert also spoke about the benefits your children will reap from having a parent who’s more relaxed and present as a result.

‘It’s very important for kids to see that balance that ideally needs to be achieved in a family situation,’ she added.

“Motherhood can be very stressful. Whether it’s financial stresses, time stresses, just trying to get a whole lot done in a very short period of time,” she told Fox5. “I think it’s really important for mothers to be rejuvenated and refreshed.”

The best way to do recharge your mum-batteries? Grab your besties and head off for a mum-cation. It’s a chance to hold conversations without being interrupted eat meals in peace and reconnect with your tribe.

The average mum roughly gets about 17 minutes for herself every day, a study reveals [1]. This doesn’t come as a surprise because motherhood, while a source of joy and fulfillment, is a full-on 24/7 job. So, it’s a given, every mom deserves a healthy retreat — but not just any kind of getaway. What they need is now being dubbed as a ‘mumcation’, typically a two-day to a week’s worth of holidays without the kids, spent with friends or even better, other mums who understand the need for me time.

Psychologists are in on this too. On a segment on Sunrise, they said that mums should be taking regular ‘mumcations’ to recharge from the daily grind of motherhood. Guest Dr. Emmanuella Murray, a clinical psychologist explains, “In a nutshell, happy mum, and happy family. Mums are going on a vacation and then they’re coming back into their family home and they’re dying to see their kids”. This doesn’t only apply to mums, but for dads too. Dr. Murray adds, “Sometimes, dads are the primary carers too”.

With the emergence of solo female friendly destinations and women’s only retreats, mums now have the option to escape in a safe and nourishing environment and do whatever they want or do nothing at all.

WHY MUM VACATIONS IN UGANDA

While most moms would agree they like time alone now and again, I’ve found surprising positive benefits to taking the a full week mommy vacations. It’s not just being able to sleep in or read an entire book, but actual noticeable differences in attitude and emotional well-being result. Here are 5 unexpected benefits I’ve noticed from my times away.

  1. Patience returns

As I take time away I can literally feel my patience returning. My previously intense desire to flee and be alone is replaced with a small (and growing) appreciation for normal life with the kids. Pre-mommy vacations I am snappy, impatient, and irritable. Post-mommy vacations I feel more calm, at peace, and able to handle the daily snags of life.

It seems silly that a time period as short as a weekend can cause such an attitude turnaround, but it’s absolutely true! When you finally have time to relax and get “off duty the feelings that have been stuffed are able to resolve themselves. I’m not saying you’ll feel like a new person, but you’ll feel like you again.

  1. Great pleasure returns

As with patience, mommy vacation brings back the space for my happiness in the kids to return. The truth is, I feel blessed that I naturally delight in them. Maybe all mothers naturally find joy in their children, but sometimes it’s very hard because Responsibilities outweigh cute moments.

Getting away from responsibilities and obligations for a day or two actually forces you to just “be.” And when you are just being you, the delight with your children comes back full force. I find myself anxiously awaiting my reunion with them and delighting in the things that, two days earlier, would have been inconvenient and annoying.

  1. Gives the kids a chance to explore new things

It’s good for your kids to spend alone time with their dad. In fact with you out of the way to your vacations your spouse, family member, friend or babysitter has a chance to spend some time with the kids doing things you’d probably not ordinarily do or accept they should do because you may be thinking of their safety health and most probably just being insecure. New games, new activities, new vocabulary and just a good old fashioned change of scenery.

  1. Brings you back to your own identity

Becoming a mother is a major life change, as in completely changed. If other areas of your life change at the same time as becoming a mother – career, location, etc. – then the transition can really throw you for a loop. When we’re focused on others all day and barely give our own needs or wants a thought we can begin to lose our own identity. Of course we must need our children’s needs all day! Of course we must sacrifice some of our previous habits by necessity!

However, it’s good to take some time and remember who you are as a person outside of being a mother. What you like to do, what you don’t like to do. Time to find your passions and time to do the things you love that there aren’t enough hours in the day for.

  1. it’s for catching up too

The last time I had away I used for two purposes. Relaxation and getting ahead on writing projects. I was able to do both successfully which meant that upon returning home I was actually ahead. Ahead and rested! If you have something you’ve been wanting to do for a while, scheduling time away to get it done makes all the difference. There are no distractions or other practicalities pulling away at you.

Most people go on vacations or safaris in Uganda they enjoy nature and all the waters plus seeing the closest animal to our DNA come tell you stories and makes you feels sand. These are some of the things that you may need to catch up too.

rolex

THE ROLEX: IN UGANDA WE EAT IT AS WELL AS WEARING IT.

Rolex watches  the timeless style recognizable at a glance hmm : On a self drive safari in uganda you will recognize it yes at just a glance because its different, tasty and not only is it good for the eyes but also mouth watering for the stomach but this is not the Swiss watch to style you up- this is food as in real and ready to eat snack or meal as you may want it.

Rolex is a popular food item in Uganda, combining an egg omelette and vegetables  mostly the onions, tomatoes and cabbage wrapped in a chapati. The name “rolex” comes from its method of preparation, with the chapati and the omelette  being rolled together to form a rolex.

Mostly the people who make chapatis are easterners form the Nile river side, they are so good at this because even the wheat that makes the dough form (chapati) is planted their., these came to Kampala as other people to look for money and did what they know best, it spread so fast that the whole uganda and neighboring countries prefer tasting it.The delicacy soon spread throughout Uganda. Welcoming people.

Have we mentioned earlier, World over: Ugandans are well known for their hospitality and general character. Nearly all tribes in Uganda put emphasis on welcoming guests and strangers and this is from a micro scale of a family home to the macro scale of the entire county. So definetly expect while on a self drive car rental Uganda to probably meet and make many Ugandan friends instantly. Even while on self drive through the rural areas, don’t hesitate to park ad interact with some locals as they might provide you with some insights about where you are.

Absolutely Warm nice weather.

Given its position on the globe, Uganda is one of the few countries through which the equator  crosses. This makes it closer to the sun and hence hotter, but on the other hand, Uganda is also blessed with fresh water bodies such as lake Victoria (source of the mighty river Nile and largest lake in east sub-Saharan Africa). These geographical conditions blended together create a most suitable micro climate that is both hot and cool without extremes. Truly, you wont find a better equatorial paradise to self drive car rental uganda safari.

Unique flora and fauna.

As explained earlier, Uganda has a rather unparalleled climate which plays a vital role in the Eco system dominated by dense rain forests and fresh water bodies. To no surprise, these conditions end up creating natural habitats that can be shared by different birds and animals. For example the Mabira rain forest on Jinja highway-a popular self drive car rental Uganda route-is home to an estimated 300 bird species, some of which are only found in Uganda.

Spectacular wildlife & Variety

Ugandans are not a homogeneous people bound by one culture and language, but rather a group of different ethnicities and tribes each with their own culture sharing boundaries. This however does not stop us from uniting and believing in our beautiful nation. Hence on a self drive car rental uganda safari through the different regions of Uganda including amazing Uganda safari destinations, you are bound to come across and hopefully interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures but united by a patriotism. Similarly, the Ugandan landscape is not the same throughout the country; coming from the airport, you wont help but notice the gentle hills along the Entebbe highway but as you travel to the west, the  hills will regularly morph into flat-lands and eventually the Rwenzori mountain ranges; while as you travel north the topography will stretch itself flat into the horizon punctuated by monolithic rocks. All these differences in culture, landscape and so on come together to create the composition we are proud to call Uganda.

A good and welcoming Destination.

With a most welcoming population picturesque landscapes, awe-inspiring geography coupled with glorious weather, you can only expect to have an amazing self drive car rental Uganda safari even when opting to Raft the Nile in Jinja, everything is absolutely possible.
